Now that the tumultuous year of 2020 is finally coming to an end, it’s a good time to do a bit of a re-evaluation. Did you accomplish everything you wanted to this past year, or do you feel as though it’s passed by in a less-than-productive blur? If your answer is closer to the latter, you might want to try practising a bit more consciousness in your daily life.
Consciousness is defined as a vast spectrum of awareness that can range from unconscious to awakened. A lot of people tend to operate at a low level of conscious awareness, merely meandering through the days as if on auto-pilot. If you’ve ever found yourself wondering if you’ve left the iron or locked your garage doors before leaving the house, then you know what it’s like to operate on a low level.
Fortunately, there are ways to raise this awareness, become more mindful of yourself and your actions, and ultimately live your life with more intent. Here are a few ideas on how you can get started on it for the coming year:
Connect to Your “Year Ahead” Vision
Some of the most successful people in the world make use of visualisation techniques to activate their creative subconscious minds and manifest the outcomes that they want to achieve. But what is visualisation, and how can it help you?
Visualisation is the practice of envisioning your dreams with your mind’s eye in as much detail as possible. It enables you to focus on your goals with more clarity by helping your mind generate creative paths towards them. It also reprograms your mind to better perceive the resources you’ll need to take those paths. Additionally, visualisation techniques can aid in building your internal motivation so that you can take the actions necessary to accomplish your ambitions.
That being said, you can use visualisation techniques to picture the 2021 that you want to have. It’s as easy as painting a picture in your mind, creating every element of the scene until it’s exactly as you want it. Another way to connect to your “year ahead” vision is to make use of the ancient tool of Astrology and booking a natal chart reading. Professional astrological readings can help you gain insight into both your personal and professional life, showing the path ahead and enabling you to envision your 2021 more clearly.
Choose Three Big Goals to Achieve Over the Year
The beginning of the year is an excellent time to start establishing new goals. However, those who are too ambitious by attempting too many goals for the year, may only be setting themselves up for disappointment.
To avoid burning out, it’s always a good idea to be conscious of your limitations. When setting goals for the year, remember the SMART rule. Put simply, this acronym means your goals should be Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Time-Bound. Sticking to these guidelines will prevent you from going after impossible objectives. They’ll also ensure that you don’t end up spreading yourself too thin.
To start choosing your three major goals for the year, first identify which areas of your life you’d like to improve upon. For example, you might want to try achieving one personal goal, one professional goal, and one health and fitness goal for 2021. Write these goals down somewhere you’ll always see them, such as an organiser, your dream journal, or even in your phone’s notes app. That way, you can easily remind yourself of them and stay on track.
Identify the People You Want to Align with to Bring Your Goals into Reality
Cultivating your consciousness in the coming year doesn’t have to start and end with looking inward and deepening your self-awareness. You can also extend it towards those that you meet and interact with daily. Specifically, you want to examine the people that influence you the most.
Have you ever noticed how the members of your inner circle have had a clear hand on shaping your character? The individuals you surround yourself with can directly contribute to your success, and 2021 is a good year to start re-evaluating their impact on you. If you want to see success in the coming year, you’ll want to associate with individuals who bring out the best in you.
To do this, make a list of the five people you spend the most time with. Under each person, make notes about their outlook in life as well as their personality and attitude. Then, think about which aspects of them you’ve taken into yourself and made your own. Ask yourself if you’re satisfied with the mark they’ve made on your life, how they’ve shaped you, and if you see your association with them being an asset to you. From there, you can restructure your network and make adjustments as necessary.
Becoming more conscious is a process that you’ll have to work on continuously. However, getting an early start at the beginning of the year is a great way to turn it into a lasting habit.
